What is Section 508 Compliance?
Section 508 requires that any technology used by a federal agency or department is accessible to people with disabilities.
Rehabilitation Act of 1973
This law was put in place to give support to disabled individuals. In 1998, an update to Section 508 was made to address technology and accessibility on the web. It requires that any technology that is used by a federal agency or department be accessible to people with disabilities.

What is the difference between Section 508 and ADA Compliance?
Section 508 focuses on keeping federal agencies and bodies with federal funding in accessibility compliance.
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is focused on accessibility everywhere. This means the entire private sector is affected too.
